Band of Brothers smash cancer fundraising target as they complete West Highland Way in memory of Dundee man Stuart Fraser

An international band of brothers has smashed a £30,000 cancer charity fundraising target en route to conquering the West Highland Way.

The 15 walking pals from across the globe have a combined age of 1,000 years.

But blisters and old bones were no barrier to their determination to complete the 96-mile hike.

It was organised by Dundee man Garry Fraser in memory of his brother, Stuart, who passed away last September.

At the end of May, a team of walkers will walk the 96 miles from Milngavie to Fort William in memory of their brother and close friend Stuart Fraser who passed away last September after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Walkers will be coming from all over the world to take part, from Vancouver, Singapore, Switzerland and England as well as some from Scotland.

The Soccer Saturday legend says he was ‘sorely tempted’ to join Stu’s Band of Brothers on the 96-mile hike through some of Scotland’s most famous landscapes

Sky Sports anchorman Jeff Stelling has backed a group of pals planning to walk the West Highland Way to raise money for prostate cancer in memory of their brother and close friend.

The team – dubbed Stu’s Band of Brothers – will set out on the 96 miles from Milngavie to Fort William to pay tribute to Stuart Fraser, who passed away from the disease last September.

Jeff Stelling backs Dundee fundraiser in memory of man who died from prostate cancer

Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling has given his backing to a Dundee fundraiser in memory of a man who died from prostate cancer.

A group of 16 men, all over the age of 60, are travelling from across the globe to walk the West Highland Way between May 26 and 31 for charity.

Called Band of Brothers, they are taking on the 96-mile trek over six days in memory of Stuart Fraser, who died in September last year, a month before his 68th birthday.

Starting on 28th March, Surrey Hills Radio is interviewing Stu’s Band of Brothers. These will be broadcast at 10:00am each Monday during Community Hour, for nine weeks until the start of the Hike.

Stuart was a long-time resident of Leatherhead and Ashtead, and was well known in the area.

A group of men in their 60s will be taking on the West Highland Way in memory of their friend and brother who died from cancer.

Stuart Fraser died last September at the age of 67 after a battle with prostate cancer.

Now his brother Garry alongside 14 friends – whose ages add up to 1,000 – will be taking on the famous walking challenge in his memory.

With a combined lifetime which would span a millennium, a group of sixteen friends aged sixty-plus are travelling from across the world to undertake the gruelling 96 miles of the West Highland Way. Stu’s Band of Brothers, most of whom first knew each other at school in Dundee, want to walk the long-distance footpath over some of the most beautiful and mountainous terrain in the UK to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK, following the passing of one of their friends Stuart Fraser.

“We’re all over 65, so it’s not as if we’re in the springs of youth.”

Garry Fraser, from Dundee, and 15 friends will be taking on the West Highland Way in memory of his brother Stuart.
