Jeff Stelling backs West Highland Way mission to raise money for prostate cancer fight

The Soccer Saturday legend says he was ‘sorely tempted’ to join Stu’s Band of Brothers on the 96-mile hike through some of Scotland’s most famous landscapes

Sky Sports anchorman Jeff Stelling has backed a group of pals planning to walk the West Highland Way to raise money for prostate cancer in memory of their brother and close friend.

The team – dubbed Stu’s Band of Brothers – will set out on the 96 miles from Milngavie to Fort William to pay tribute to Stuart Fraser, who passed away from the disease last September.

Prostate Cancer UK ambassador Stelling has now offered support and encouragement, taking time off from his busy schedule to meet three of the walkers at the Invercarse Hotel, Dundee.

The Soccer Saturday frontman accepted a T-shirt and sweatshirt designed for the walk but had to decline their offer to join any one of the legs of the world famous hiking route.

“When I saw the wonderful countryside they’d be travelling through, I was sorely tempted,” he said. “However, family and business commitments mean it’s impossible for me to join them.
